16 sc = 4 in. (10 cm). When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Fold lower edge of Purse up about 6 in. (15 cm), and seam sides.
Sew on Button. Use space between shells as a buttonhole. Weave in ends.

Make a ch about 57 in. (145 cm) long.

Perfect Purse Reviewed by Sarah on 2015-02-23 ****
This was a very simple pattern to follow. The only thing I struggled with is the front flap of the purse was not as wide as the rest of the bag so I added a extra shell on either end. I striped the bag part white and green and left the shell section just green. I also placed pieces of a dollar store plastic cutting board on the inside of each side and hand sewed a piece of funky fabric on the inside.
Great gift for my sister-in-law!
