Lion Brand® LB Collection® Superwash Merino - LB Collection® Cashmere

GAUGE:

20 sts + 27 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit into front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then k through back of same st – 1 st increased.
sk2p Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over – 2 sts decreased. To work last sk2p in a rnd, slip last 2 sts of rnd, k first st of the next rnd, pass both slipped stitches over.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together.

NOTES:

1. Carry color not in use across wrong side of work.
2. Tam is worked in the round, so every rnd of Chart 1 and Chart 2 should be read from right to left.
3. Decreases for top of Tam (crown) are worked following Chart 2.

TAM
With A, cast on 100 sts. Divide sts onto 4 needles (25 sts per needle). Place marker for beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: *With A, k2; with B, p2; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 until piece measures 1 1/2 in. (4 cm).
Next Rnd: With A only, * k1, kfb, k2, kfb; rep from * around – 140 sts at end of rnd.
Change to St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd)
Beg with Rnd 1, work 4-st rep of Chart 1 around.
Continue in St st worked in the rnd and Chart 1 as established until Rnd 16 has been completed, then rep Rnds 1-14 once more.
Shape Crown
Next Rnd: Beg with Rnd 1, work 20-st rep of Chart 2 seven times around.
Continue as established until Rnd 21 of Chart 2 has been completed – 14 sts.
Next Rnd: With C only, [ssk] 7 times – 7 sts at end of rnd. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through rem sts, pull tightly tog, and fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends. Stretch Tam over a dinner plate and spray lightly with water to block. Allow to dry.

Pemberly Tam Reviewed by S ANN BERRY on 2012-06-06 ****
Lovely tam.. However problems with Chart 2 colors and instructions. Questions were promptly answered because "this is confusing". Adjustments/corrections needed.
