GAUGE:

16 sts and 22 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Afghan is worked in intarsia. Use a separate ball of yarn for each color section. Twist yarns on WS to prevent gaps between color sections.
2. For ease in working, print out all charts, then tape charts together following chart assembly diagram to make a single large chart.
3. Charts are worked in St st (k on RS, p on WS). Follow Charts from right to left on RS rows, from left to right on WS rows.
4. Stitch markers are placed between the Garter st borders and between the individual Charts. Slip the markers as you come to them.
5. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.

AFGHAN
With A, cast on 272 sts.
Knit 6 rows for Garter st border.
Next Row (RS): With A, k6 for Garter st border, place marker (pm); working in St st (k on RS, p on WS), follow Row 1 of Chart 1 over next 65 sts, pm, Row 1 of Chart 2 over next 65 sts, pm, Row 1 of Chart 3 over next 65 sts, pm, Row 1 of Chart 4 over next 65 sts; pm, with A, k6 for Garter st border.
Next Row (WS): With A, k6 for Garter st border, slip marker (sm); working in St st, follow Row 2 of Chart 4 over next 65 sts, sm, Row 2 of Chart 3 over next 65 sts, sm, Row 2 of Chart 2 over next 65 sts, sm, Row 2 of Chart 1 over next 65 sts; sm, with A, k6 for Garter st border.
Keeping first and last 6 sts in Garter st (k every row) and rem sts in St st, continue to follow Charts until all 211 rows are completed. Note: After completing the 52 rows of Charts 1, 2, 3, and 4, work the 53 rows of Charts 5, 6, 7, and 8, then Charts 9, 10, 11, and 12, and finally Charts 13, 14, 15, and 16.
Knit 6 rows for Garter st border.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

I am working on this pattern right now and it is all I can think about! All I want to do is see the finished product! I found it a little hard to comprehend the pattern at first, but after reading it about 10 times, I figured it out. Since the charts are small and hard to read, I have been taking a little extra time to hand write out each row and what I'm supposed to do. I wish there was a written out pattern somewhere! I want this blanket to be perfect so writing it out helps me make sure there are little to zero mistakes.
