Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®
9 stitches + 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
1. Use split-ring style stitch markers. To view and purchase split-ring stitch markers, click here.
2. Scarf begins and ends with 3 rows of Garter stitch (knit every stitch on every row) to make borders. For side borders, first and last 2 stitches are also worked in Garter stitch.
Cast on 16 stitches.
Rows 1-3: Work in Garter stitch (knit every stitch on every row).
Row 4: Knit 2 stitches (for border), purl across row to last 2 stitches, knit last 2 stitches (for border).
Row 5: Knit across row.
Repeat last 2 rows until Scarf measures 71 in. (180.5 cm).
Knit 3 rows. Bind off.
Cable (make 2)
Cast on 4 stitches. Work in Stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) until piece measures about 100 in. (254 cm) long. Bind off.
From right side, beginning at one corner, inside Garter stitch border, place a marker every 5 in. (12.5 cm) along each long edge of Scarf. Arrange and pin one Cable to Scarf, as follows: pin end of Cable to right corner inside Garter stitch border, bring Cable to first marker on left side and pin, bring Cable back to 2nd marker (skip first marker) on right side and pin, bring Cable to 3rd marker (skip 2nd marker) on left side and pin, continue arranging Cable in zig-zag fashion along length of Scarf, pinning in place at every other marker, end by pinning end of Cable to corner at end of Scarf. Arrange and pin remaining Cable in similar way, beginning in left corner and weaving over and under the first Cable. Roll edges of Cables slightly to wrong side, and sew in place by stitching down sides of each with thread and small stitches. Weave in ends.
