Stitch Explanation: 8-st LC Sl 4 sts to cn and hold to front, k4, k4 from cn.

Pattern: Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 and 15 (RS) K1, *[yo, p2tog] 4 times, k8; rep from * to last 9 sts, end [yo, p2tog] 4 times, k1. 
Row 2 and all WS rows P1, *[yo, p2tog] 4 times, p8; rep from * to last 9 sts, end [yo, p2tog] 4 times, p1. 
Row 9 K1, *[yo, p2tog] 4 times, 8-st LC; rep from * to last 9 sts, end [yo, p2tog] 4 times, k1. 
Row 16 Rep row 2. 
Rep rows 1–16.

Note: this is a generic pattern for creating this cable. For a single cable it would be 16 stitches. In the example shown, there are 2 repeats of the stitch, so you'd need to cast on 42 (16 x 2 + 10) stitches and do 2 repeats to get a swatch that appears the same.
