    • Quintessential Wool for Sweaters

Reviewing Fishermens Wool in Birch Tweed. It is the PERFECT yarn for a shawl collar sweater for cool weather outdoor activities. The price makes it affordable to use in making heirloom pieces. The wool has a rustic thick and thin presence that brings an artisan yarn feeling in my opinion. I encountered single tied knots in 3 of the 6 skeins used. The wool is soft to work with, did not adversely affect my skin in any way and this could be attributed to the light lanolin present in the yarn. I did not detect any lanolin scent in my yarn. I intend to lanolize this sweater this weekend so I have no report on its affect on the fabric yet. Yarn did NOT break at any point. It was nice and slippery, & only split when I was not paying attention to my stitch placement. It is a nice flexible yarn. It worked fine as center pull from the skein except that it was not an easy start…the yarn came out in large clumps out of the middles of skeins. I did cake 3 of the skeins – I preferred using it caked. I was only able to buy 4 skeins due to store stock – I had to pick up 2 add’l skeins at another store – there were noticeable shade differences however my stitch pattern disguises it so no matter on this sweater. Next one I will know to over buy on same lot yarn. I chose a tight stitch for this particular sweater and the yarn worked up nice and drapey. I find it to be more of a light worsted than medium worsted. For me this is preferable. I cannot wait to do my next project with this yarn. I have already purchased 12 skeins in Natural to begin an Aran Celtic Cabled Throw. LOVE THIS YARN. I should also state that I am a yarn snob and I really do not enjoy working with scratchy acrylics. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS YARN. My overall score would be 95 out of 100 – the only improvement needed to get to 100 is making the skeins easily started for center pull. However, this recommendation would apply to all Lion Brand yarns. I have never had an easy pull skein from Lion Brand. Lion Brand is my favorite mass market yarn company though.

    • Beautiful yarn

This yarn is really wonderful. I used it to make a sweater for my pup and it is so nice and warm for her. We live were temperatures get far below zero so I doubled up the thread and did two strands in a half double stitch and it is perfect. Thank you for this great product! The store that used to carry it by my house no longer does :( I hope that I can find it somewhere else soon!
