Rows 15, 17, 19, 21: K2, kfb, knit until there are 3 stitches remaining, kfb, k2. This increases 2 stitches per row, so at row 21, you'll have 40 38 stitches.
Rows 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41: K2, k2tog, knit until there are 4 stitches remaining, k2tog, k2. This decreases two stitches per row, so on Row 41, you'll have 20 18 stitches.

GAUGE: 22 sts x 28 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in stockinette stitch BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

With A, cast on 28 stitches.
Rows 1-12: *K2, p2 rep from * across
Row 13: Change to B. K2, kfb, knit until there are 3 stitches remaining, kfb, k2 - 30 (38) stitches
Row 14 and all even-numbered rows: purl
Rows 15, 17, 19, 21: K2, kfb, knit until there are 3 stitches remaining, kfb, k2. This increases 2 stitches per row, so at row 21, you'll have 38 stitches.

From RS, beginning at the back waistband, pick up and k stitches every row from front to back in an multiple of 4.

Rows 3-10: Repeat rows 1-2.
Row 11: Repeat row 1.
Bind off.
Work Cuff on remaining leg.
Weave in ends.

Position and sew with a sewing machine.
FELTING
Felting is a process whereby the wool is deliberately handled so that it is matted into a fabric. Wool fibers have scales and are also crimped. When these fibers are wetted and softened and then rubbed together they grab each other and are permanently bound together. This happens when you put a wool item in a washer and agitate it -- it comes out much smaller and also denser, because the fibers have bound together.
Finished soaker size depends on how much the piece is felted. Keep in mind that you can always felt more, but once felting is done, it is not reversible.
Wash by machine on a hot wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent and several pieces of clothing to agitate. At the end of the wash cycle measure the soaker. If you like it, stop! Place it flat to shape and let dry. If it is larger than you want, you can felt it additionally, if you dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry. Remove from dryer and lie flat to shape.
Steam if desired.
If the soaker is still too large, you can felt it additionally by washing again. Felting is often improved by adding about 1/2 cup baking soda to the wash water to increase the alkalinity.

| I loved making this soaker plus it looked great on my granddaughter. I changed the colors to: Main--pastel green; CC--white. It was beautiful and easy to make, wear, etc. Thank you for this great free pattern!!
