GAUGE: Exact gauge not vital. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: | sc2tog (sc dec) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook. |

Place toe end of stocking inside the ball. Fill with filling so you can determine how much is needed. Knot off the stocking so that a ball of the correct size is formed. Remove stocking from inside the ball. Turn the stocking back over the ball so that it is double. Tie again. Repeat until there is no stocking left (typically 4-5 times). This process results in many layers of stocking holding the filling. Put the stocking with the filling inside the ball.
Rnd 18: Sc in 2 sc, skip 1 sc 4 times - 8 sc
Rnd 19: Sc in 1 sc, skip 1 sc 4 times - 4 sc
Rnd 20: Sc in 1 sc, skip 1 sc 2 times - 2 sc
Sc 2 together, fasten off, weave in ends.
