Butterfly Square

METHOD

Round 1: Using A, 13 ch, ss in 13th ch from hook, 12 ch, ss in 9th ch from hook, 9 ch, ss in 9th ch from hook, ss in each of next 3 ch, 13 ch, ss in 13th ch from hook. 4 loops made for wings: 1 large, 2 small, 1 large.
Round 2: 1 ch, [1 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 3 tr, 1 ch, 1 dtr, 1 ch, 3 tr, 3 dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc] in 13-ch loop, sk 1 ch, ss in next ch, sk 1 ch, [1 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 1 ch, 1 dtr, 1 ch, 2 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc] in 9-ch loop, 1 sc in base of body, work 17 sts as before in 9-ch loop, sk 1 ss, ss  in next ss, sk 1 ss, work 21 sts as before in 13-ch loop, ss in first ch of round.
Round 3: 3 ch, sk [1 sc, 1 hdc], ss in next hdc, * [1 ch, ss in next st] 6 times, 1 ch, sk 1 ch, [1 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc] in dtr, 1 ch, sk 1 ch, [ss in next st, 1 ch] 6 times, # ss in next st, sk [1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss, 1 sc, 1 hdc], ss in next st, [1 ch, ss in next st] 4 times, 1 ch, sk 1 ch, [1 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc] in dtr, 1 ch, sk 1 ch, [ss in next st, 1 ch] 4 times, * rep from * to * once more, ss in next st, sk [1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 ss, 1 sc, 1 hdc], ss in next st, rep from * to # once more, ss in next st, ss in 3rd of 3 ch at beg of round.
Fasten off A. Join B to 3-ch sp at tip of top right wing.
Round 4: 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, 5 ch, sk 5 sts, 1 sc in bl (back loop) of next ch, 5 ch, sk 9 sts, 2 dc tog inserting hook at either side of 3 ch at beg of round 3, 5 ch, sk 9 sts, 1 sc in bl of next ch, 5 ch, sk 5 sts, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 3-ch sp at tip of 2nd wing, * 5 ch, sk 5 sts, 1 sc in bl of next ch, 5 ch, 1 tr in sp between wings, 5 ch, * sk 5 sts, 1 sc in bl of next ch, 5 ch, sk 5 sts, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 3-ch sp at tip of 3rd wing, 5 ch, sk 4 sts, 1 sc in bl of next sc, 5 ch, 1 tr in sp between wings, 5 ch, sk 5 sts, 1 sc in bl of next sc, 5 ch, sk 4 sts, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 3-ch sp at tip of 4th wing, rep from * to * once more, sk 9 sts, 1 sc in bl of next ch, 5 ch, sk 5 sts, ss in 3rd of 5 ch at beg of round. 
Round 5: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, * [5 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp] 4 times, 5 ch, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 2-ch sp at wingtip, 5 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp, [5 ch, 1 dc in next ch sp] 3 times, 5 ch, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 2-ch sp, [5 ch, 1 dc in next ch sp] 4 times, 5 ch, [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in 2-ch sp, [5 ch, 1 dc in next ch sp] 3 times, 5 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp, 5 ch, ss in 3rd of 3 ch at beg of round. 5 ch sps on each side.
Round 6: Ss into 2-ch sp, 8 ch, 2 dc in same ch sp, * 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp, 5 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp, [3 dc, 3 ch, 3 dc] in next ch sp, 1 sc in next ch sp, 5 ch, 1 sc in next ch sp, 3 ch, # [2 dc, 5 ch, 2 dc] in 2-ch sp at corner, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, 1 dc in first ch sp, ss in 3rd of 8 ch. Fasten off B.
