GAUGE:
9 sts + 12 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in St st (knit on right side, purl
on wrong side). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SCARF
With CC, cast on 16 sts. Work 8 rows in Garter st (knit every row).
Join MC and work first and last 3 sts of each row in Garter st, center 10 sts in St st. Continue in pattern as established in stripe sequence as follows: *4 rows MC, 4 rows CC; repeat from * 22 more times, carrying unused color loosely along side. Work 4 rows more in MC, then work 8 rows Garter st in CC. Bind off all sts. Weave in ends.
