Work even until piece measures 12 inches [30.5 cm] from beg. Change to C and work even for 10 rows. Change to B and work even until piece measures 23 inches [58.5 cm]. Placing center 20 sts on holder, bind off remaining sts.FRONT Work as for Back until piece measures 20½ inches [52 cm], ending with a WS row.Next row (RS) Work 40 sts, place center 12 sts on holder, join 2nd ball of yarn and work even to end – 40 sts each side. Cont to work both sides at same time, bind off 2 sts from each neck edge twice – 36 sts each side. Work even until piece measures same length as Back. Bind off all sts.FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing, circular needles, and B, and starting at left shoulder, pick up and knit 24 sts around Front neck, including 12 sts from holder, and 20 sts from Back neck holder – 44 sts. Join to work in rounds.Rnd 1 Purl. Rnd 2 Knit. Rnd 3 Purl. Bind off all sts loosely in knit.HOOD (optional) With RS facing, smaller needles, and B, and beginning at right shoulder edge, pick up and knit 40 sts along Back neck (2 sts in each stitch).Row 1 (WS) K 5, p 30, k 5. Change to larger needles.Row 2 (RS) Knit. Work even as established, working first and last 5 sts in garter st and center sts in St st until piece measures 14 inches [35.5 cm]. Bind off all sts. Fold hood in half so that garter edges meet. Sew seam along bound-off edge.
