GAUGE:
8.5 sts + 13 rows = 4" [10 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS) on larger needles.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Pull ends of fringe through this loop and pull to tighten. After all fringe is attached, knot one strand of each fringe with its neighbor to the left, and the other strand with its neighbor to the right. Work a second row of knots, tying one strand from each knot with its neighbor to the left, and the other strand with its neighbor to the right. This forms a knot-work lattice in the fringe. Trim to desired length.

Wonderful pattern, I had a fun time knitting it. Looks good, one of my favorites.
