GAUGE:
12 sts + 16 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in Lace Pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them together.
PATTERN STITCH Lace Pattern (multiple of 6 sts) Row 1 (right side) *K 1, yo, ssk; repeat from *. Row 2 and all wrong side rows Purl. Row 3 *K 2, yo, ssk, k 2; repeat from *. Row 5 *K 3, yo, ssk, k 1; repeat from *. Row 6 Purl. Repeat Rows 1-6 for Lace Pattern.

This was one of my first projects, and it came out great! As a beginner, it took me about 2 months to make. The pattern was very easy. I followed the pattern for the largest size, and 3 balls was enough for me.
The only thing I would have done differently is that I wouldn't have knitted the last rows of garter stitch before binding off because it added a wider boarder. I would have rather bound off after the pattern so that when I sewed it together I would still have an even border (see photo).
