Lion Brand® Pound of Love® - Wool-Ease®

GAUGE:

16 sts + 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) on larger needle. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

STITCH PATTERN

2-color Seed St (worked on an odd number of sts):

Row 1 (RS) With MC, *k 1, p 1; repeat from * to last st, end k 1.

Row 2 (WS) With CC, *k 1, p 1; repeat from * to last st, end k 1.

Next Row Slide work to other end of needle (WS row faces; MC yarn end is ready to be used on next row). With MC, p the k sts and k the p sts across row.

Continue to alternate one row MC with one row CC and repeat this last row for pat, sliding work to opposite end of circular needles as necessary to reach working yarn.

End odd number of rows with MC; cut CC.

NOTES:

Pieces are knitted back and forth on circular needles (do not join work into circle). When working 2-color seed stitch pattern, slide work to other end of needle as necessary for the yarn to be ready for next row.

BLANKET

With MC and larger needle, cast on 101 sts. *Work St st for 5 inches, ending with a WS row. Join CC. Work 2-color seed st for 9 rows*. Repeat from * to * 2 more times. Work St st for 5 inches, ending with a RS row. Do not bind off.

Edging **Set-up row: Work 1 (WS) row in seed st with MC. Work 2-color seed st for 2 inches, inc 1 st at each end of every RS row, taking care to keep seed st as est, ending with a RS row (MC). Next Row With MC, bind off in seed st.** On each remaining side of Blanket pick up 101 sts and repeat from ** to ** for edging. Sew Blanket corners.

HAT

With MC and smaller needle, cast on 58 (64) sts. Work 2-color seed st for 7 rows. Change to larger needle. Work St st for 5 (6) inches, ending with a WS row.

Dec for Top

Next Row (RS) K2tog across row – 29 (32) sts.

Next Row & all WS rows Purl.

Next RS Row K2tog across row, end k 1 (0) – 15 (16) sts.

Next RS Row K3tog 5 (4) times, k4tog 0 (1) time – 5 sts remain. Join CC. Work 2-color seed st cord as follows: Work in seed st on 5 sts; sliding work to opposite end of needle at beg of each row alternating 1 row MC and 1 row CC until cord is 4 inches or desired length. Bind off. Sew back seam of Hat. Tie cord in knot, tack cord end to top of Hat neatly hiding bound-off edge.

Jacket

Body (Note Worked in one piece to armholes.) With MC and smaller needle, cast on 89 (105) sts. Work 2-color seed st for 9 rows. Change to larger needle. *With MC work in St st for 2½ inches, 2-color seed st for 7 rows*. Repeat from * to * for body pattern; AT SAME TIME when piece measures 6 (7) inches from beg, ending with a RS row divide for armholes as follows: Work across 24 (28) sts and slip on a holder for right front, work next 41 (49) sts for back, turn and leave remaining 24 (28) sts on a holder for left front.

Back

Continue in established pattern on back sts only until piece measures 10 (12) inches from beg. Bind off back sts.

Right Front

Reattach yarn at right front underarm and work 1 WS row. Continue in established pattern; AT SAME TIME, dec 1 st at center front on each RS row 13 (14) times. Work even until piece measures same as back. Bind off remaining 11 (14) sts.

Left Front

Reattach yarn at underarm for left front (RS facing). Work 2 rows. Continue in established pattern; AT SAME TIME, dec 1 st at center front on each RS row 13 (14) times. Bind off remaining 11 (14) sts. Sew shoulder seams.

Sleeves

With MC and smaller needle, cast on 19 (21) sts. Work 2-color seed st for 7 rows. Change to larger needle. With MC work in St st for 2½ inches, work 2-color seed st for 7 rows, then continue with MC in St st until piece measures 6 (8) inches; AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st at each end of every 3rd row 8 (11) times – 35 (43) sts. Bind off loosely.

Finishing

Sew sleeve seams. Set sleeve into armhole and sew neatly in place.

Front and neck border With RS facing, using MC and smaller needle, pick up and k approximately 115 (127) sts (an odd number of sts) up right front, across neck and down left front. With MC set-up row as for blanket edging, work 2-color seed st for 5 rows. With MC, bind off in seed st. With MC, make button loop (crochet or buttonhole st yarn loop) at beg of neck shaping on desired side (right front for girl, left front for boy).
