When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Tassel Instructions 1. Wrap yarn around 6" length of cardboard 100 times. 2. To create twisted cord, cut (2) 36" lengths of yarn, knot ends together. Hold knotted end in one hand, and with the other hand, twist yarn until taut. Grasp center of twisted yarn and allow yarn to twist. Knot open end. 3. Thread twisted cord in tapestry needle, thread through top of tassel, and tie tightly. Cut other end open to remove cardboard. 4. Using a 2 yard length of yarn folded in half, wrap yarn around tassel tightly several times about¾" below top knot, and knot.
FINISHING: Sew back seam. Using B and following number chart, duplicate stitch the number 5 to center of back, beg the bottom of the number 10 rows above ribbing. With A, make a tassel approx 4-5² long. With A, crochet a chain approx 3² long and attach to end of tassel. Sew tassel with chain to top of cover.
