Ribbon-Trimmed Scarf

Lion Brand® Velvetspun

GAUGE:

8 stitches + 18 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in ribbing stitch (knit 1, purl 1). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

SPECIAL CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR VELVETSPUN YARN
To maintain full plushness, a knot should be tied at the beginning of each skein and at both ends when joining yarn. Handle the yarn gently and do not unravel or re-use. A minimal amount of shedding is normal with this yarn.

SCARF
Cast on 16 stitches.
Row 1 - 7 *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from *
Row 8 (Eyelet row) Knit 1, *k2tog, yo; repeat from * until 1 stitch remains, knit 1;
Row 9-352 *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * (scarf length will be 78 inches [approx 198 cm] at this point)
Row 353 (Eyelet row) Knit 1, *k2tog, yo; repeat from * until 1 stitch remains, knit 1;
Row 354-360 *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from *. Bind off all stitches, weave in ends.

FINISHING

Thread ribbon through eyelet row as shown, leaving a tail at either end.
At the second eyelet from the end, tie ribbon end into a bow. Sew a few stitches through the center of the bow to make sure the bow will not come untied.

Cut ribbon, leaving about 1 ½ inches [4 cm] extra, fold back and stitch in place.

Turn scarf over, in the second eyelet from the other end, tie a bow and secure in the same way.

Repeat at other end of scarf.

Ribbon-Trimmed Scarf Reviewed by Tami Hill on 2010-09-19 *
I love Lion Brand Yarn. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this project. The Velvetspun yarn is extremely fragile and sheds constantly even when handled gently. The ribbing has no elasticity and doesn't pleat--it just lays flat. I even had the working yarn break while I was knitting. So, if you like this pattern I would pick Homespun or Wool-Ease which both knit up beautifully.
