Cast on 33 (39) stitches. Work in stockinette stitch until piece
measures 4” from beginning, ending with a wrong
side row.
CROWN
Decrease Row (right side) Knit 2 together
knit to end – 32 (38) stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row (right side) Knit 1, *knit 4, knit 2 together;
repeat from *, ending knit 1 – 27 (32) stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row Knit 1, *knit 3, knit 2 together; repeat from *,
end knit 1 – 22 (26) stitches.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row Knit 1, * knit 2, knit 2 together; repeat from
*, end knit 1 – 17 (20) stitches.

Baby Hat
Lion Brand® Velvetspun
GAUGE: 9 stitches + 14 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch (knit
on right side, purl on wrong side). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row (right side) K 1, *k 4, k2tog; repeat from *, end k 1 – 27 (32) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row K 1, *k 3, k2tog; repeat from *, end k 1 – 22 (26) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row K 1, * k 2, k2tog; repeat from *, end k 1 – 17 (20) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row K 1, * k 1, k2tog; repeat from *, end k 1 – 12 (14) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Decrease Row * K2tog; repeat from *– 6 (7) sts.
Next Row *Purl 2 together; repeat from *, end k 0 (1) – 3 (4) sts.
Larger size only K2tog, k 2 – 3 stitches. Top Knot Cord
Continue to k every row on 3 sts, at end of row slipping sts back onto left-hand needle to work next row, until cord measures 5 inches [12.5 cm]. Last Row K 1, k2tog, pass the k st over the k2tog st. Fasten off.
Sew back seam. Weave in ends.

I've made several of these hats and they are such a huge hit!!!! It's an easy project, I can usually finish it in one evening, maybe 2. The yarn is so fabulous! Even though you have to sew a seam, the yarn is so plush, you can hardly see or feel the seam when it's done.
