Chicks with Sticks - Knit doll sweater and crochet playset

    Lion Brand® TiffanyTM

    GAUGE:

20 stitches by 32 rows = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch (knit and purl alternate rows) with US #8 (5mm) needles BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

    NOTES:

Product quantity used is small; this is a great project for using up left-over yarn. A single full skein of yarn will make at least 4 copies of this sweater

    SWEATER
    Body

With A and size 8 needles, cast on 24 sts. Knit in stockinette (knit a row, purl a row) until piece measures 2 1/2 inches. Bind off, leaving a tail of 8 inches.

    Sleeves
    Make 2

    Cast on 12 sts.
Rows 1-24 Knit in St st.
Bind off all stitches, leave 6 inch [15 cm] tail.

    FINISHING
Sew front and back of sweater together to make a tube.

Tie off securely, cut and wave in ends.

    CROCHET HOOK
The tiny crochet hook was made from the ring that secures the milk jug lid (and that has to be removed when opening the jug). We used scissors to cut it to shape.

    KNITTING BASKET
Purchased at Michael's: The Arts and Craft Store in the floral section.

    MINIATURE YARN BALLS
Use any kind of lightweight yarn to create yarn ball and skeins. For these skeins, we unraveled about 4 feet of Lion Wool into its four separate strands, got them damp, ironed them to make them straight and then wrapped them into skeins. We made labels, cut them to size, wrapped them and secured them with tape. Click here to download the miniature Lion Brand labels to print on your color printer

    MINIATURE PROJECT SHEETS
Click here to download the miniature Lion Brand project sheets to print on your color printer. After the sheet is printed cut the sheets carefully to size. To keep ours organized, we used a thumbtack to make a hole in the corner and put a jewelry jump ring through the hole to keep them together. We have also seen very tiny two-prong brads that could be used for this purpose.

Chicks with Sticks - Knit doll sweater and crochet playset Reviewed by Susan on 2009-04-24 *****
Great pattern! I am teaching myself how to knit and this is a perfect project to start off with. I enlarged it to fit a 16" fashion doll and loved the way it turned out!
