this is a fun bag to knit. even if you make a mistake it still turns out just fine. you can alter the size for a smaller bag for kids. great for the beach.

it stretches considerably so keep that in mind.

use any mid-weight (light worsted) cotton yarn like Aunt Lydia's. Lion Brand has several that will work well for this pattern. COUNT YOUR STITCHES OFTEN. this pattern is easy to add yo's at the end of the rows if your mind wanders like mine.

i have 2 modifications - one being that i use only lines 1 and 2 in the pattern. this changes the look and also moves the starting point. the second is knitting up the bottom to make garter stitch sides for the first inch. you have to decrease at the corners to make this happen. just makes the bag a bit better for groceries.
