GAUGE: 14 sts = 4 inches [10 cm] in Stockinette st (k on right side, p on
wrong side) with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SCARF With A, cast on 110 sts.Row 1 K 1, *yo, k 1; repeat from * – 219 sts. Row 2 and all even numbered rows Purl. Rows 3 and 7 Knit. Row 5 K 1, *yo, k 1; repeat from * – 437 sts. Row 9 K 1, *yo, k 1; repeat from * – 873 sts. Row 11 With B, knit. Bind off. Weave in ends.

| What a fun scarf! It's absolutely essential to use a long circular needle for this. Rather than using two kinds of yarn, I knit the whole thing in mohair wool, making it light, airy, and cozy without all the bulk of thick yarn. It is a nice transition piece from late fall to early winter or from late winter to early spring.
