12 stitches = 4 inches [10 cm] in pattern stitch with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

When changing yarn, leave 7" [18 cm] tails to form fringe.

With A, cast on 135 stitches. Work in the following pattern stitch: *knit 1 row, purl 1 row, knit 1 row; repeat from *, changing colors as follows: 2 rows A, **2 rows D, 2 rows E, 2 rows B, 2 rows F, 2 rows D, 2 rows C, 2 rows F, 2 rows E, 2 rows A, 2 rows D, 2 rows F, 2 rows B, 2 rows D, 2 rows E, 2 rows C, 2 rows D **, 2 rows F, 2 rows A; repeat from ** to **, 1 row F.

Next Row With F, bind off 75 stitches, knit across – 60 stitches.

Maintaining pattern stitch, work 2 rows A, then repeat from ** to **, then work 2 rows F.

Next Row With A, knit all stitches, then cast on 75 stitches – 135 stitches.

Maintaining pattern stitch, purl 1 row with A, then repeat from ** to **, then work 2 rows F, 2 rows A, repeat from ** to **, then work 2 rows F.

Bind off.
