GAUGE: 17.5 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) on Size 7 (4.5 mm) needles in pattern st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: PATTERN STITCH (multiple of 10 sts + 3 + 2) Rows 1 and 3 (RS) K 1, *k 3, p 7; rep from * across, end k 4. Rows 2 and 4 K 1, *p 3, k 7; rep from * across, end p 3, k 1. Row 5 Knit. Row 6 K 1, p to last st, end k 1. Rows 7 and 13 K 1, *p 3, k 7; rep from * across, end p 3, k 1. Rows 8 and 14 K 1, *k 3, p 7; rep from * across, end k 4. Rows 9 and 11 K 1, *p 3, k 2; rep from * across, end p 3, k 1. Row 10 and 12 K 1, *k 3, p 2; rep from * across, end k 4. Rows 15 and 16 Rep Rows 5 and 6. Rep Rows 1-16 for pattern st.

VEST
BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 85 (95, 105) sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2½", end WS. Change to larger needles. Beg with Row 1, work in pattern st until piece measures 17 (17, 18)" from beg. Shape armholes Keeping to pattern, bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end every other row 2 (3, 4) times – 73 (81, 89) sts. Work even in pattern st until armholes measure 9½ (10 ¼, 11)". Last Row Bind off 18 (21, 24) sts, work center 37 (39, 41) sts and place on holder, bind off rem 18 (21, 24) sts. RIGHT FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 35 (45, 45) sts. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2½", end WS. Change to larger needles. Beg with Row 1 work in pattern st until piece measures 16" from beg, end WS. Shape neck/armhole Keeping to pattern, at center front, dec 1 st every 5 (3, 5) rows 11 (17, 13) times; AT SAME TIME, when Front measures same as Back to armhole, shape armhole same as Back. Work even in pattern st until armhole measures 9½ (10¼, 11)". Last Row Bind off rem 18 (21, 24) sts. LEFT FRONT
Work to match Right Front, rev shaping. FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Right Button Band With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k 105 (109, 117) sts along Right Front center edge. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 6 rows. Bind off in rib. Mark for 4 buttons: first one 1" from bottom, last one 1" below V-neck shaping and the other 2 evenly spaced between. Left Front Buttonhole Band With RS facing, using smaller needles, k sts from Back holder, then pick up and k 105 (109, 117) sts evenly spaced along Left Front center edge. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 2 rows. Next Row Keeping to rib, bind off 2 sts to correspond to each marker. Next Row Keeping to rib, cast on 2 sts over each set of bound-off sts. Rib for 2 more rows. Bind off in rib. Armbands With RS facing, using smaller needles pick up and k 87 (91, 95) sts along armhole opening. Work in k 1, p 1 rib for 5 rows. Bind off in rib. Sew side seams. Sew on buttons

| I just finished this pattern I got allot of praise for it. I like wearing it, its cool in the summer and it keeps me warm in those heavily air-conditioned buildings. I think its pretty cool. I would really recommend this pattern.
