Table Runner/Placemat Set

Lion Brand® Lion® Cotton

GAUGE:

16 stitches + 32 rows (16 ridges) = 4" (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row) using Size 8 needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

>TABLE RUNNER With A, cast on 40 stitches.
Knit 72 rows (36 ridges); repeat with colors B, C and D.
Change to A and work another 72 rows (36 ridges).
Bind off all 40 stitches. Weave in ends.

FINISHING
With A, sew an overcast stitch all around the runner and along the line of each color change.

PLACE MATS
Cast on 40 stitches. Knit until there are 72 rows (36 ridges).

Bind off all stitches and weave in ends.

I did make this using a varigated yarn and matching the other blocks to the varigated yarn. I added beads to the overcast stitches and it looked beautiful.
