GAUGE:
13 sts + 19 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in St st (k every round) with
larger needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
CAP With smaller circular needles, cast on 56 (64, 72) sts. Place
marker and join in a round, being careful not to twist stitches.
Work 10 rows of K2, P2 Rib. Change to larger circular needles.
Work even in St st until cap measures 4 (4½, 5) inches from
beginning.
Crown shaping
Note Change to double-pointed needles when necessary.
