Chicks with Sticks - Knit doll poncho and knitting playset

Lion Brand® Incredible®

GAUGE:

16 sts + 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

Product quantity used is small; this is a great project for using up left-over yarn. A single full skein of each yarn will make at least 6 copies of this outfit.

PONCHO
Make 2

Cast on 9 sts. Knit in St st until piece measures 4 1/2 inches [11.5 cm]. Bind off, leaving an 8 inch [20.5 cm] tail.

FINISHING
Assemble poncho as shown, using the tail of yarn to stitch it together.

Tie off securely, cut and wave in ends.

KNITTING NEEDLES
We used the kind of toothpicks available in Japanese restaurants because they are sharp only on one end. If you don't have access to these, use a standard round toothpick; with poultry shears or wire cutters, cut off one of the sharp ends of the toothpick; then put a bead on the end and secure with hot melt glue.

Note: If you intend to really knit with these 'needles' (it is possible; we did it to make the 'scarf' in the photograph, but we were very patient!), it is a good idea to slightly blunt the sharp end of the toothpicks with an emery board or sandpaper and to rub the toothpicks with wax of some sort to make them smooth -- just like you'd do with real wooden knitting needles!

KNITTING BASKET
Purchased at Michael's: The Arts and Craft Store in the floral section.

MINIATURE YARN BALLS
Use any kind of lightweight yarn to create yarn ball and skeins. In our example, we used Lion Brand Magic Stripes yarn for the ball and knitting; for the skeins, we unraveled about 4 feet of Lion Wool into its four separate strands, got them damp, ironed them to make them straight and then wrapped them into skeins about 1½ inch [4 cm] in length. We made labels, cut them to size, wrapped them and secured them with tape. Click here to download the miniature Lion Brand labels to print on your color printer.

Easy, quick, and really pretty. I made this with some leftover incredible in Night Lights. It was so pretty. It is actually way pretty than the pic. The only problem is that now I am addicted to making stuff for fashion dolls. LOL
