Lion Brand® Homespun® - Fun Fur®

GAUGE:

14 sts and 20 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] over St st (k on RS, p on WS) using Homespun. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

VEST

BACK

With A, cast on 84 (91, 97, 103, 109) sts and work 2 rows in Garter st (knit every row).

Next Row (RS): Knit.

Next row (WS): K 4, p to last 4 sts, k 4.

Repeat last 2 rows, working Garter st over first and last 4 sts and St st over center sts, until piece measures 6 inches [15 cm] from beg, ending with a WS row. Changing to St st, work 4 rows even. Decrease 1 st each end next row, then every following 4th row 8 times more – 66 (73, 79, 85, 91) sts. Work even until piece measures 16 (16½, 16½, 17, 17) inches [40.5 (42, 42, 43, 43) cm] from beg, ending with a WS row.

Armhole Shaping

Bind off 12 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 42 (49, 55, 61, 67) sts. Work even until armhole measures 10 (10, 10½, 11, 11½) inches [25.5 (25.5, 26.5, 28, 29) cm]. Bind off all sts.

LEFT FRONT

With A cast on 36 (40, 42, 45, 48) sts and work 2 rows in Garter st.

Next Row (RS): Knit.

Next Row (WS): P to last 4 sts, k 4.

Repeat last 2 rows, working Garter st over 4 outside edge sts and St st over remainder of row, until piece measures 6 inches [15 cm] from beg, ending with a WS row.

Change to St st and work 4 rows even.

Next Row (RS): Decrease 1 st at beg of row (outside edge), then decrease 1 st at outside edge every 4th row 8 times more – 27 (31, 33, 36, 39) sts; AT SAME TIME, when piece measures 15 (15½, 16, 16½, 16½) inches [38 (39.5, 40.5, 42, 42) cm] from beg, ending with a RS row:

V-Neck and Armhole Shaping

Next Row (WS): Decrease 1 st at beg of row (neck edge), then decrease 1 st at neck edge every 12th row 4 times more; AT SAME TIME, when piece measures same length as Back to armhole, bind off 12 sts at beg of next RS row. When all neck decreases are completed, work even until armhole measures same length as Back. Bind off remaining 10 (14, 16, 19, 22) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front, reversing all shaping.

Tie Front Swing Vest Reviewed by jamethiel on 2010-11-24 *****
I used this pattern as a base for a vest and it turned out great. Easy to understand. The only issue I had was shaping the two fronts, I haven't made a project this big before and didn't remember to shape the left differently from the right, even though the pattern reminds you to do this. It still turned out great!
