Lion Brand® Homespun®

14 stitches + 28 rows = 4" (10 cm) over Garter Stitch (knit all rows).
10 sc + 10 rows = 4 inches (10 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Jacket is knit in one piece starting at bottom Back and casting on for Sleeves. The piece is divided for back neck and worked over shoulders to Fronts, which are worked one at a time from shoulders down. Collar, cuffs and bands are crocheted separately and sewn on after the piece is knit.

Cast on 70 (77, 84, 91, 98, 105) stitches. Work in Garter Stitch until piece measures 18˝ (19, 17˝, 17, 16, 15˝) inches or desired length to armhole, ending with a wrong side row.

At beginning of next two rows, cast on 52 (49, 49, 46, 46, 42) stitches for Sleeves – 174 (175, 182, 183, 190, 189) stitches. Work even until piece measures 26 inches from beginning or desired length to shoulders.

Divide for back of neck Knit 78 (77, 80, 79, 82, 81) stitches, join second skein of yarn and bind off center 18 (21, 22, 25, 26, 27) stitches, knit to end. Working left and rights sides separately, knit 7 rows even, place marker for center shoulder, knit 7 rows even.

Increase one stitch at neck edge every other row 21 times – 99 (98, 101, 100, 103, 102) stitches. Work even until Front Sleeve measures same as Back Sleeve from marker. Bind off 52 (49, 49, 46, 46, 42) Sleeve stitches – 47 (49, 52, 54, 57, 60) stitches. Work even until Front measures same as Back. Bind off. Work second Front.

Then & Now Jacket Reviewed by Joann Hahn on 2014-04-17 ****
The patterns was so pretty that I couldn't resist making it. is definitely not the length shown in the pattern. I am 5'8" and this only comes to my mid thigh and I added 3" to the pattern length. Someone needs to go over this pattern. Other than that it came out so nice. I changed the sleeve cuffs because they were way to wide and sloppy for my taste but you can't see that from the picture.
