Lion Brand® Homespun®

GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) over St st (k on RS, p on WS).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Neck shaping Keeping in pattern, k 14 (15, 16, 19) sts. Join second strand of yarn and bind off next 13 (14, 15, 15) sts, k to end. Working both sides at once, work even in pattern until Back measures 14 (15, 17, 19) inches from beg. Bind off.

FRONT

Work as for Back until Front measures 11 (12½, 14½, 16) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

Neck shaping Keeping in pattern, k 17 (18, 19, 22) sts. Join second strand of yarn and bind off next 7 (8, 9, 9) sts, knit to end. Working both sides at once, decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 3 times – 14 (15, 16, 19) sts each side. Work even in pattern until Front measures 14 (15, 17, 19) inches from beg. Bind off.

SLEEVES (Make 2)

With MC, cast on 22 (22, 24, 24) sts. Knit 5 rows. Change to St st. Work 8 rows of Stripe Pattern. At same time, increase 1 st each side every 4th row 6 (10, 11, 11) times and every 6th (0, 0, 2nd) row twice – 38 (42, 46, 50) sts. Work even until Sleeve measures 10 (11, 12, 13) inches from beg. Bind off.

FINISHING

Sew left shoulder seam. With RS facing and MC, pick up and k 40 (42, 43, 44) sts evenly around neck edge. Work 5 rows in St st. Bind off loosely.

Sew right shoulder and neck seam. Sew in sleeves, matching center of sleeve top with shoulder seam and working down. Sew underarm and Sleeve seams. Weave in ends.

Child's Striped Yoke Pullover Reviewed by Marilyn Gallaccio on 2012-06-17 *****
Made this for my 2 yr old grandson - it came out great. Didn't use Homespun - I've had problems with it before - used another type of bulky. Just the kind of thing a little guy would wear to play in the leaves this fall. Did shorten the sleeves a bit - but that is an indivdual thing and no problem. Having these reviews to check with I find is a lot of help.
