GAUGE:

12 sts + 16 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Stockinette stitch (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop.

PONCHO – Make 2 (Front and Back) Cast on 15 sts, place marker (pm), cast on 1 st, pm, cast on 15 sts – 31 sts. Row 1 (WS) Purl. Row 2 (RS) K 1, M1, k to first marker, M1, slip marker (sm), k 1, sm, M1, k to last st, M1, k 1 – 35 sts.

Repeat Rows 1-2 for 8 more times – 67 sts.

Next Row Purl. Next Row Knit to first marker, M1, sm, k 1, sm, M1, knit to end – 69 sts.

Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 25" [63.5 cm].

Garter Stitch Edging

Row 1 Knit. Row 2 Knit to first marker, M1, sm, k 1, sm, M1, knit to end.

Repeat these 2 rows for 4 more times. Bind off.

Finishing Sew right side seam.

Split-Neck Collar With RS facing, pick up and knit 60 sts along neck edge. Cast on 3 sts – 63 sts. Work in Garter st (k every row) until Collar measures 4" [10 cm]. Bind off.

Sew left side seam (do not sew Collar). Sew base of Collar flap to inside. Weave in ends.
