Image of Fuzzy Santa Stocking
Santa will wish he could wear this bright and fuzzy Christmas stocking! This stocking is done flat, so those not comfortable with double-pointed needles need not fear! There is also a crochet version.

Fuzzy Santa Stocking

Lion Brand® Homespun® - Fun Fur®

8 sts = 4 inches (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) with one strand each of A and B held tog. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, cast on 28 sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 8 inches from beg, ending with a WS row.

First Half Knit 7 sts, place remaining 21 sts onto stitch holder. Work 5 more rows in St st. (K 2, k2tog, turn. P 3, turn) 4 times. Place remaining 3 sts onto a stitch holder.

Second Half Knit 7 sts at end of row from stitch holder, leaving 14 center sts on holder. Work 6 more rows St st. (P 2, p2tog, turn. K 3, turn) 3 times, (p 2, p2tog) once. Place remaining 3 sts onto stitch holder.

With RS facing, k across first 3 heel sts from holder, pick up and knit 4 sts along side of heel; knit center 14 sts from holder; pick up and knit 4 sts along side of second half of heel, k remaining 3 sts from holder – 28 sts.

Work even in St st until Foot measures 4 inches.

First Half K2tog, k 3, k2tog twice, k 3, k2tog – 10 sts. Place remaining 14 sts onto a stitch holder for second half of toe.

Rows 2, 4, and 6 Purl.

Row 3 K2tog, k 1, k2tog twice, k 1, k2tog – 6 sts.

Row 5 K 2, k2tog, k 2 – 5 sts.

Row 7 K2tog, k 1, k2tog – 3 sts.

Bind off as if to purl.

Second Half Slip remaining 14 sts from stitch holder onto needle. Work as for first half of toe.

Divide C into 3 equal balls. With WS facing and 3 strands of C held tog, from inside of cast on edge, pick up and knit 28 sts.

Next Row Kf&b, k 26, kf&b – 30 sts. Knit 13 more rows. Bind off loosely.

Sew back seam. Sew foot and toe seams. Fold cuff to RS at halfway point.

Hanging Cord

With crochet hook and 1 strand each of A and B held tog, attach yarn to back seam at cuff fold. Chain 12, slip st to attaching space. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
