Lion Brand® Homespun®

14 sts + 26 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in garter stitch (knit every row) When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Afghan is made from four separate squares

SQUARE - make 2 in A and 2 in B
Cast on 20 sts. Knit every row until piece measures 6 inches. Bind off as to knit.

Sew together invisibly as per assembly diagram:

To join two pieces together, thread a large-eyed blunt needle with B. Place the edges of the squares side by side with the right sides (the sides that people will see) FACING OUT.

Start sewing with the threaded needle at one end of the work
From the right side, stitch up the sides as shown, alternating one square to the other.Start sewing with the threaded needle at one end of the work

With RS facing and C, pick up and knit 40 sts across cast-on edge 1. Knit 8 rows. Bind off all sts as if to knit. Repeat along edge 2.

With RS facing and C, pick up and knit 48 sts across cast-on edge 3 and ends of edges 1 and 2 borders. Knit 8 rows. Bind off all sts as if to knit. Repeat along edge 4.

Weave in ends.

I have made three of these two for my cats, one is a finicky Siamese , and a tabby. I made one for my sister's cat, whom is older. They came out so cute. I used soft washable yarn and the cats love it! It is a easy and since i'am a fairly new knitter, fun to do. Any knitter beginner or advanced will love what they can do for there lovable pets!
