Sleeveless Turtleneck

Lion Brand® Glitterspun® (old)

18 sts + 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) on larger needles. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

With smaller needles cast on 81 (86, 91, 96, 101, 106) sts. Work in K1, P1 Rib for 11 rows. Change to larger needles and continue in St st until piece measures 14" from beg, end after WS row.
Armhole shaping Bind off 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Decrease row (RS) Slip 1 st, k 1, p 1, k2tog, knit to last 5 sts, ssk, p 1, k 2.
Next row (WS) Slip 1 st, p 1, k 1, purl to last 3 sts, k 1, p 2.
Repeat these 2 rows 7 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10) times more - 57 (60, 63, 66, 69, 72) sts.

Cont as foll:
Next row (RS)
Slip 1 st, k 1, p 1, k to last 3 sts, p 1, k 2.
Next row (WS) Slip 1st st, p 1, k 1, p to last 3 sts, k 1, p2.
Repeat last 2 rows until armhole measures 7½ (7¾, 8, 8¼, 8½, 9)".
Shoulder and neck shaping Bind off 6 (7, 7, 8, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then bind off 7 (7, 8, 8, 9, 9) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Place rem 31 (32, 33, 34, 35, 36) sts onto stitch holder for Back Neck.

Work as for back until armhole measures 5 (5¼, 5½, 5 ¾, 6, 6¼)".
Neck shaping: Left shoulder (RS) Slip 1, k 1, p 1, k 13 (14, 15, 16, 17, 18), ssk, k 2, place next 17 (18, 19, 20, 21, 22) sts onto stitch holder for Front Neck. Attach a separate ball of yarn and work rem sts as follows: k 2, k2tog, k 13 (14, 15, 16, 17, 18), p 1, k 2. Working both shoulders at same time, repeat decreases at neck edge each RS row 6 times more. When front measures same as back, beg at armhole edge on each shoulder, bind off 6 (7, 7, 8, 8, 9) sts, then bind off rem 7 (7, 8, 8, 9, 9) sts .

Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing and circular needles, work across 31 (32, 33, 34, 35, 36) sts from Back Neck holder, pick up 8 sts, work across 17 (18, 19, 20, 21, 22) sts from Front Neck holder, pick up 8 sts - 64 (66, 68, 70, 72, 74) sts. Join to beg and work in K1, P1 Rib around until neckband measures 6". Bind off loosely.

Sew side seams. Weave in loose ends.

Sleeveless Turtleneck Reviewed by Jenny Poh on 2011-08-18 *****
Made this for a friend & she loves it after 3 years of wearing. Its too bad that the black or red color are no longer available. Would love to make one for myself in red.
