GAUGE:

4.5 sts = 1 inches [2.5 cm] in St st (k on RS, p on WS) or single crochet.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Knit instructions: For each link, cast on 20 sts, leaving a 4 inches tail. Bind off, leaving a 4 inches tail. (Note: there are no stitches in this piece! The width of the chain is simply that created by casting on plus binding off) Linking pieces together, tie tails with a very tight triple knot and trim ends close to knot.

Crochet instructions: For each link, chain 21, leaving a 4 inches tail. Sc in 2^nd chain from hook and in each ch to end.

Next row Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Fasten off, leaving a 4 inches tail. Linking pieces together, tie tails with a very tight triple knot and trim ends close to knot.
