Tank Top and Jeans Embellishment

Lion Brand® Microspun - Fun Fur®

GAUGE:

For Tank Top
19 sts + 23 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).
For Jeans Trim
Not essential.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

BACK
With Microspun, cast on 89 (97, 103, 111) sts. Work in Seed st for 1".

Begin pattern as follows:
Row 1 (RS) K 2, p 1, k 39 (43, 46, 50), p 1, k 3, p 1, k 39 (43, 46, 50), p 1, k 2.
Row 2 (WS) Purl across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern and work even until piece measures 10½", ending with a WS row.
Shape Armholes
Continue in pattern and bind off 4 (5, 5, 6) sts beginning of next 2 rows – 81 (87, 93, 99) sts. Decrease after first 2 and before last 2 sts on next row and every other row (every RS row) 2 (5, 3, 6) times total. Work even on 77 (77, 87, 87) sts until armholes measure 4½ (5, 5¼, 5¾)", ending with a RS row.
Shape Neck

Next Row (WS) P 38 (38, 43, 43), k and p in next center st to increase, p 38 (38, 43, 43) – 78 (78, 88, 88) sts.
Next Row (RS) K 38 (38, 43, 43), slip next st, join separate ball of yarn and with separate ball (k next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, k next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, k to end – 39 (39, 44, 44) sts first shoulder, 34 (34, 39, 39) sts 2nd shoulder. From here on, work each shoulder with separate strand of yarn.
Next Row (WS) P 33 (33, 38, 38) sts of 2nd shoulder, slip last st, for first shoulder, (p next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, p next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, p to end – 34 (34, 39, 39) sts each shoulder.
Next Row (RS) K 33 (33, 38, 38), slip last st of first shoulder, for 2nd shoulder, (k next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, k next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, k to end – 34 (34, 39, 39) sts first shoulder, 29 (29, 34, 34) sts 2nd shoulder.
Next Row (WS) P 28 (28, 33, 33) sts, slip last st of 2nd shoulder, for first shoulder, (p next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, p next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, p to end – 29 (29, 34, 34) sts each shoulder.
Next Row (RS) K to last st of first shoulder, slip last st of first shoulder, for 2nd shoulder, (k next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, k next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, k to end – same number of sts for first shoulder, 5 less sts for 2nd shoulder.
Next Row (WS) P to last st of 2nd shoulder, slip last st of 2nd shoulder, for first shoulder, (p next 2 sts tog) twice, * pass first of these decrease sts over 2nd *, p next 2 sts tog, repeat from * to *, p to end – same # of sts each shoulder.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 4 sts remaining at each shoulder. Bind off 4 sts of each shoulder over next 2 rows.

Tank Top and Jeans Embellishment Reviewed by darla carroll on 2009-05-08 ***
well, I made it in size large and it did not fit like the picture. It is more like a trapeze top. the deco detail down the front did not go down the middle but is instead offset to one side. I also ended up having to go down 2 sizes in order to get gauge. In spite of that I like the neck edgeing and it is still cute. I wish it did not swing out so much down at the bottom though.
