Striped Child's Capelet
Lion Brand® Fun Fur®
GAUGE: 16 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm over St st (k 1 row, p 1row) using size 8 (5mm) needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

CAPELET Cast on 112 sts and work in St st in the following stripes: 3.5"/9cm (or 14 rows) each in colors A, B, C and D. Bind off all sts with D. Fold piece in half widthwise with wrong side facing out to make a 14"/36cm square. Sew through both thicknesses across bound-off edges for 8"/20.5cm, leaving 6"/15.5cm open for neck.

| With all due respects to commentor #1, the size 8 needles is a perfect gauge for 4sts/inch. The resulting fabric is tighter than 10.5 needles. The larger size needles will yield a much looser fabric that will hang and pull out of shape badly. In very short order the wearer will have pulled the poncho so out of shape she could use it as a blanket! Also, you can purchase the Fun Fur for much less (sometimes $1 or $2) at other vendors. This way you will still be able to use all 4 colors. I love all the Lion "Fur" yarns. I have made some great shawls and other goodies with it.
