GAUGE:
7 dc + 4 rows = 4" [10 cm].
7 sc + 8 rows = 4" [10 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION:

Ribbing
With A, ch 5. Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 4 sc. Row 2 Ch 1, sc in back loop of each sc across; turn. Repeat Row 2 until 94 rows are completed from beg. Fasten off.
Body Row 1 (RS)
Working across long edge of Ribbing, join B in top right corner of Ribbing, ch 1, sc in each row-end sc across; turn – 94 sc. Rows 2-12 Ch 3, dc in each st across; turn. Fasten off. With RS facing, join C in first st. Rows 13-18 Ch 1, sc in each st across; turn.
Shape Shoulders Row 19
Ch 1, slip st to 4th sc, ch 1, sc in same sc, sc in each sc across to last 3 sts; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 88 sc. Rows 20-22 Repeat Row 19 – 70 sc at end of Row 22. Fasten off. Row 23 With RS facing, skip first 4 sts, join B in next st, ch 3, dc in each st across to last 4 sts; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 62 sts. Rows 24-26 Ch 1, slip st to 5th st, ch 3, dc in each dc across to last 4 sts; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 38 sts at end of Row 26. Row 27 Ch 1, slip st to 4th st, ch 3, dc in each dc across to last 3 sts; turn leaving remaining sts unworked – 32 sts.
Shape Left Neck Row 28
Ch 1, slip st to 4th st, ch 3, dc in each of next 7 sts; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 8 sts. Row 29 Ch 1, slip st to 4th st, ch 3, dc2tog in next 2 sts. Fasten off.
Shape Right Neck Row 28
With WS facing, skip 10 sts to the left of last st made in Row 28 of Left Neck, join B in next st, ch 3, dc in each of next 7 sts; turn, leaving remaining sts unworked – 8 sts. Row 29 Ch 1, slip st to 3rd st, ch 3, dc2tog in next 2 sts. Fasten off.
ASSEMBLY
With WS of Front and Back facing, using large-eyed, blunt needle and matching yarn, sew Front to Back up each side and across Shoulder Shaping.
NECK TRIM
With RS of Poncho facing, join A in left shoulder seam, ch 1, work 20 sc evenly spaced across Front to right shoulder seam, work 20 sc evenly spaced across Back to beg; join with slip st in first sc – 40 sc. Fasten off.
TURTLENECK
With A, ch 18. Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 17 sc. Rows 2-40 Ch 1, sc in back loop of each sc across; turn. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
FINISHING
Matching sts across last row and foundation ch, sew Turtleneck seam. With seam in back, matching row-end sts to sts on Neck Trim, sew lower edge of Turtleneck to Neck Trim.
