GAUGE:
8 stitches + 9.5 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in single crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
BAG
Chain 23.
Row 1
Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across – 22 stitches. Chain 1, turn.
Repeat Row 1 until there are 42 rows total.
Decrease Row
Insert hook into first stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook – single crochet 2 together made; single crochet in each stitch to last 2 stitches, single crochet 2 together.
Repeat Decrease Row until 2 stitches remain. Single crochet 2 together.
Do not fasten off.
Edging
Chain 1, make 3 single crochets in last stitch, sc evenly along side of flap to first Decrease Row, 2 single crochet in side of Decrease Row, single crochet evenly along side, 3 single crochet in corner, single crochet across bottom, 3 single crochet in corner, single crochet evenly along other side, 2 single crochet in first Decrease Row, single crochet evenly along remaining side of flap, join with slip stitch in top of first single crochet. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
FINISHING
Fold bottom edge up to match Row 40 of Bag (wrong sides together). Pin sides; sew sides together with sewing thread through single crochet edges. Fold flap over; sew frog closure on flap and front of Bag to correspond.
Sew 1 handle only to top of Bag, using 1 strand of yarn and large-eyed, blunt needle.
