8 stitches+ 12 rows = 4" (10 cm) in single crochet. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

I really like this as well because it is so fast. I have one in black for when I go out, one in blue for everyday, and one in red that I made my friend. I like how basic it is too so you can add your own beads, specialty yarn, or designs. Anyone reading this should also visit http://crochetpurse.brighterplanet.org/ because it has all kinds of ideas to spice up your purses.
