GAUGE: 10 sts + 11 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in single crochet with larger hook. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: Sc2tog Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Fpdc Yo, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around the dc post, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind the fpdc. Bpdc Yo, insert hook from back to front then to back, going around the dc post, draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st in front of the bpdc.

Work in body pattern to approximately 5½ (6) inches from beginning, ending with a WS row.Crown Shaping Row 1 Ch 1, sc in first 2 (3) sc; * sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sc; rep from * across ending sc2tog, sc in last 2 (3) sc - 45 (47) sts; turn. Row 2 and each following WS row Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. Row 3 Ch 1, sc in first 2 (3) sc; * sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * across ending sc2tog, sc in 1 (2) sc - 36 (38) sts; turn.
