GAUGE:
Each Square = 13 inches x 11 inches. TO BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
SOLID SQUARE (make 7: 2E, 2D, 3C)
Ch 51.
Row 1
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (50 sc). Ch 1, turn. Row 2 Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Rows 3-44 Rep Row 2. Fasten off.
MOTIF SQUARE (make 8)
With A, ch 51. Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (50 sc). Ch 1, turn. Rows 2-44 Cont in sc, foll chart Rows 2-44. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sl st or sew squares tog invisibly foll diagram.
Border
With RS facing, join A with sl st in corner at long edge and work 1 row sc along the long edge. Fasten off. Work 1 row of sc along other long edge. Fasten off. With RS facing, join A with sl st in any corner, then work in sc around entire throw for 1" working 3 sc at each corner.
Edging: Rnd 1
With RS facing, join E in any st, work 1 sc, * ch 3, skip 1 sc, (yo, insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo draw yarn through 2 loops on hook, skip next sc, yo, insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook, yo and draw yarn through 3 loops on hook - 2 dc tog skipping 1 sc before working 2nd dc made), ch 3, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next st *, rep from * to * around, do not turn. Fasten off.
Rnd 2
With RS facing, join A and sc into first sc, * ch 3, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next 2 dc worked tog in previous row, ch 3, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next sc *, rep from * to * around. Fasten off.
