GAUGE:

Square = 7½ inches x 7½ inchees [19 x 19 cm]. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Super Soft 'Granny' Baby Blanket Reviewed by Carolyn Garbacz on 2010-11-23 ****
I loved the softness of the blanket, but had a lot of trouble with the Velvet Spun yarn. Not only did it fray and come off but when I finished the blanket I noticed that some of the middle stitches broke and had to try to fix them or make a new square to replace it. I would never want to work with this yarn again, and especially for a baby. I'm not sure this is the right yarn for babies. I wouldn't want to see a baby chew on or eat the loose material that falls off.
