GAUGE: Rnds 1-2 = 2½ inches [6.5 cm] in diameter with 1 strand each of A
and B held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
STITCH EXPLANATION: 3-dc Shell 3 dc worked in same st.
5-dc Shell 5 dc worked in same st.

CLOCHE
With 1 strand each of A and B held tog, ch 4; join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1 Ch 1, [sc, ch 2] 8 times in ring; join with slip st in first sc – 8 ch2-spaces.
Rnd 2 Slip st in first ch2-space, ch 1, (sc, ch 2) in each ch2-space around; join with slip st in first sc.
Rnd 3 Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in each sc and each ch2-space around; join with slip st in first sc – 16 ch2-spaces.
Rnd 4 Repeat Rnd 2.
Rnd 5 Ch 1, *sc in sc, 3-dc Shell in next ch2-space; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc – 16 Shells.
Rnd 6 Slip st to center dc of first Shell, ch 1, *sc in center dc of Shell, ch 3; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc – 16 ch3-spaces.
Rnd 7 Ch 1, *sc in sc, 5-dc Shell in next ch3-space; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc – 16 Shells.
Rnds 8-11 Repeat Rnds 6-7.
Rnd 12 Repeat Rnd 6.
Rnd 13 Ch 1, *sc in sc, 3-dc Shell in next ch3-space; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc – 16 Shells.
Rnd 14 *Ch 1, skip 1 dc, (slip st, ch 2, slip st) in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, slip st in next sc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first slip st. Fasten off.
Weave in ends. TIE
With 1 strand of A and 2 strands of B held tog, leaving a 5 inches [12.5 cm] tail, ch 120. Fasten off, leaving a 5 inches [12.5 cm] tail. Weave Tie over then under the sts in Rnd 12. Tie in a bow at side. Add 2 10" [25.5 cm] folded lengths of B to ends of Tie for fringe. Tie each end of Tie in an overhand knot and trim fringe to 3 inches [7.5 cm].

| I started making this to match the scarf and I had to pull it out several times because it just didnt look right. Finally I went ahead and made the whole thing and it just looks kind of wierd the way it sits on your head and you use the tie to keep it on.
