'Love to Knit' Holiday Ornament
Lion Brand® Lion® Wool
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

ORNAMENT
KNITTING NEEDLES
We used the kind of toothpicks available in Japanese
restaurants because they are sharp only on one end.
If you don't have access to these, use a standard round
toothpick; with poultry shears or wire cutters, cut off one
of the sharp ends of the toothpick; then put a bead on the
end and secure with hot melt glue. |
 |
MINIATURE YARN BALLS
Use any kind of lightweight yarn to create yarn ball and
skeins. In our example, we unraveled about
4 feet of Lion Wool into its four separate strands, got them
damp, ironed them to make them straight and then wrapped
them into skeins about 1½ inch [4 cm] in length. We
made labels, cut them to size, wrapped them and secured them
with tape. Click here to download the miniature Lion
Brand labels to print on your color printer. |
|
FINISHING
Place items in the basket and secure with a dab of hot glue.
Cut a strand of yarn about 10 inches [25 cm] long and tie a
bow on the handle of the basket. Secure with a dab of
glue.
Place basket inside ornament, position the free end of the
yarn so it is outside the ornament and of a length where the
basket can hang free. Close the two halves of the
ornament.
|
 |
|
Tie the yarn in a bow and trim ends as shown.
Thread another piece of yarn through the hole at the top of the
ornament that is designed for hanging and tie off securely.
Your ornament is now complete.

| The basket with yarn skeins and needles would also be great to make for an American Girl Doll accessory or a doll house. You can enlarge or miniaturize the labels even further on your computer.
