Tasseled Chanukah Garland
Lion Brand® Festive Fur - Lamé - Microspun
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
|
|
GARLAND
| The garland is braided, but not with the conventional
three strand braid. The technique is called 'horsetail
braiding' and is done with a single strand of yarn.
This is an extremely fast way to make a braid and is very
similar to the process of doing a single crochet chain.
The illustrations show smooth yarn for the sake of
clarity.
|
 |
| Take one strand of each of the festive fur yarns and tie a
slip knot in the end, leaving the loop long. |
 |
Reach your hand through the loop. You may find it
helpful to hold the end of the yarn in your other hand, but
we didn't show this for sake of clarity.
|
 |
| use one finger to grab the free yarn as shown |
 |
| Pull it through the loop, creating a second loop. |
 |
| Pull on the second loop, tightening the first loop.
Repeat the process, pulling one loop through the other until
the chain is as long as you want your garland to be. Cut
the yarn, pull the free end through the last loop and tighten. |

|
TASSELS
1. Wrap the lame yarn around 4 inch piece of
cardboard 30 times or until tassel is as thick as you want
2. Cut 24" length of yarn, fold it in
half, and thread through top of tassel and tie tightly. Cut
other end open to remove cardboard.
3. Bind
the tassel at the top as shown at right. Use different
colors of Lamé and Microspun for a decorative effect.
You can also use other yarns -- even embroidery floss to get
bright and attractive colors.
4. Lamé has a natural tendency for the
strands to separate; the tassels will fluff up on their own.
|
 |
|
Make as many tassels as you want. In our
example, we made enough to put one every 18 inches. This
allows for a graceful drape.
Tie the yarn off at the top of the tassel,
thread through the bead and then tie the tassel on the garland. |
