Ponchette

Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® - Microspun - Fun Fur

GAUGE:

Rnd 1 of Motif = 2" [5 cm] across.
Motif = 4" [10 cm] across.
On Border, (sc, ch 3, sc) = 1¼" [3 cm]; 8 rnds = 4" [10 cm] with 1 strand each of A and E held tog. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Shell 3 dc in same st.

NOTE: Ponchette is made of 28 Motifs joined together while completing last round. Use 2 strands of specified colors held together throughout.

 

FIRST MOTIF (Center Front Motif)

With 1 strand each of A and D held tog, ch 6; join with slip st to form ring.

Rnd 1 (RS) Ch 1, [sc, ch 3] 7 times in ring, sc in ring; join with hdc in first sc; turn – 8 spaces.

Rnd 2 Ch 1, (sc, ch 7) in each of first 7 spaces, sc in next space; join with ch 2, dc in first sc to form last loop – 8 loops.

Rnd 3 Ch 1, *sc in loop, ch 4, (sc, ch 6, sc) in next loop for corner, ch 4, sc in next loop, ch 4; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc – 4 corner ch6-loops; 12 loops total. Fasten off.

Work 27 more Motifs as for First Motif, working each Motif with 1 strand of A and 1 strand of B, C, or D held tog as designated by Construction Diagram. Join each Motif to previous Motif(s) while completing Rnd 3, following Construction Diagram for placement.

JOINING ON ONE SIDE OF MOTIF

Work as for First Motif through Rnd 2.

Rnd 3 (Joining Rnd) With RS of each Motif facing up, ch 1, *sc in loop, ch 4, (sc, ch 6, sc) in next loop for corner, sc in next loop, ch 4; repeat from * once, sc in next loop, ch 4, sc in next loop, ch 3, drop loop from hook, insert hook from front to back in any corner loop of previous Motif, pick up dropped loop and draw through corner loop, ch 3, sc in same loop on current Motif, ch 2, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding ch4-loop on previous Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of current Motif, ch 2, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding ch4-loop on previous Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of current Motif, ch 3, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding corner loop of previous Motif, ch 3, sc in same loop of current Motif, ch 4; join with slip st in first sc – Motif is joined to previous Motif on 1 side. Fasten off.

JOINING ON TWO SIDES OF MOTIF

Work as for First Motif through Rnd 2.

Rnd 3 (Joining Rnd) Ch 1, sc in first loop, ch 4, (sc, ch 6, sc) in next loop for corner, (sc, ch 4) in each of next 2 loops, sc in next loop, ch 3, drop loop from hook, insert hook from front to back in corresponding corner loop of previous Motif, pick up dropped loop and draw through corner loop, ch 3, sc in same loop on current Motif, *ch 2, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding ch4-loop on previous Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of current Motif, ch 2, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding ch4-loop on previous Motif, ch 2, sc in next loop of current Motif, ch 3, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through next corresponding corner loop of previous Motif *, ch 1, skip opposite ch6-loop, drop loop from hook, draw dropped loop through corner loop on next Motif, ch 3, sc in same loop of current Motif; repeat from * to * once, ch 3, sc in same loop of current Motif, ch 4; join with slip st in first sc – Motif is joined to previous 2 Motifs on 2 sides. Fasten off.

NECK BORDER

Rnd 1 With RS facing, join 1 strand each of A and E in any ch4-loop near one shoulder, ch 1, (sc, ch 3) in each ch4-loop and each joined corner loop around, skipping center ch6-loop in junction at base of V on center Front and center Back; join with ch 1, hdc in first sc to form last loop.

Rnd 2 Ch 1, (sc, ch 3) in each ch3-loop around, skipping ch3-loop at center Front and center Back; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 3 With RS facing, join 1 strand each of A and B in sc to the right of center Back space, ch 1, **sc in sc, ch 2, skip next ch3-space, *sc in next sc, Shell in next sc; repeat from * across to center Front space; repeat from ** around; join with slip st in first sc.

Rnd 4 **Ch 2, skip next ch2-space, slip st in next sc, *ch 2, skip next dc, (slip st, ch 2, slip st) in center dc of next Shell, ch 2, skip next dc, slip st in next sc; repeat from * to ch2-space at center Front; repeat from ** around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

BOTTOM BORDER

Rnd 1 With RS facing, join 1 strand each of A and E in any ch4-loop, ch 1, (sc, ch 3) in each ch4-loop and each joined corner loop around, working (sc, ch 6, sc, ch 3) in ch6-loop at center Front and center Back; join with ch 1, hdc in first sc to form last loop.

Rnd 2 Ch 1, (sc, ch 3) in each ch3-loop around, working (sc, ch 6, sc, ch 3) in ch6-loop at center Front and center Back; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 3 With RS facing, join 1 strand each of A and B in sc to the right of center Back space, ch 1, **sc in sc, 7 dc in next ch6-loop, *sc in next sc, Shell in next sc; repeat from * across to ch6-loop at center Front; repeat from ** around; join with slip st in first sc.

Rnd 4 **Ch 2, skip next 2 dc, slip st in next dc, ch 2, (slip st, ch 3, slip st) in next dc, ch 2, slip st in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, slip st in next sc, *ch 2, skip next dc, (slip st, ch 2, slip st) in center dc of next Shell, ch 2, skip next dc, slip st in next sc; repeat from * to center Front; repeat from ** around. Fasten off.

DRAWSTRING

With 1 strand each of A, E, and F held tog, leaving a 5" [12.5 cm] tail, ch 175. Fasten off, leaving a 5" [12.5 cm] tail.

Starting and ending at center Front, weave Drawstring over then under the sc in Rnd 2 of Neck Border. Add beads to each end of Drawstring if desired. Weave one 10" [25.5 cm] strand of A, E and F through each end of Drawstring and center; tie in an overhand knot near end of Drawstring. Trim ends even.
