This elegant version of a ruana was inspired by the romantic spirit of the British Isles. The rich fabric provides warmth and style whether you are touring the castles of Dundee, Scotland, enjoying a night at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, or going out for dinner with friends on a cool fall evening in Boston’s North End.

The beauty of the ruana wrap is just how many ways you can wear it. Leave both sides down and flowing freely as you would a poncho or tie a sash to hold the front pieces in place. Throw one side over the opposite shoulder (as shown) or both sides around opposite arms and create a cowl neck. Choose a spectacular pin to hold your wrap in place.

GAUGE:

9 sts + 9 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in single crochet with A. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

When changing yarns, leave 7" [18 cm] tails to form fringe.

RUANA WRAP

With A, chain 102. Single crochet in 2^nd chain from hook and in each chain across – 101 stitches. Chain 1, turn.

Continue to work one row sc in color sequence as follows: **D, E, B, F, D, C, F, E, A, D, F, B, D, E, C, D **; repeat from ** to **.

Neck opening

Next Row With A, single crochet in 45 stitches; join D in last stitch, chain 57, turn.

Next Row With D, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain and single crochet across – 101 stitches.

Beginning with E, continue to work one row single crochet in color sequence from ** to ** twice.

Last Row With A, work 1 row.

Fasten off.
