GAUGE:

10.5 sc + 11 rows = 4" [10 cm]. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

Use separate yarn for each color area. Do not carry colors not in use across work. To change color within row, work to last st of old color, work last st until last 2 loops remain on hook, drop old color to wrong side; with new color, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook to complete st; continue with new color.

PILLOW BACK

With B, ch 37.

Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 36 sc.

Work following Chart or the words below for color changes. If following Chart, read all odd-numbered rows from right to left, and all even-numbered rows from left to right.

Rows 2-4 With B, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Rows 5-34 With B, ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sc; with C, sc in each of next 28 sc; with B, sc in each of last 4 sc; turn.

Rows 35-38 With B only, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

PILLOW FRONT

With A, ch 37.

Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 36 sc.

Rows 2-4 With A, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Rows 5-8 With A, ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sc; with B, sc in each of next 28 sc; with A, sc in each of last 4 sc; turn.

Rows 9-12 With A, ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sc; with B, sc in each of next 4 sc; with A, sc in each of next 20 sc; with B, sc in each of next 4 sc; with A, sc in each of last 4 sc; turn.

Rows 13-26 With A, ch 1, sc in each of first 4 sc; with B, sc in each of next 4 sc; with A, sc in each of next 4 sc; with C, sc in each of next 12 sc; with A, sc in each of next 4 sc; with B, sc in each of next 4 sc; with A, sc in each of last 4 sc; turn.

Rows 27-30 Repeat Rows 9-12.

Rows 31-34 Repeat Rows 5-8.

Rows 35-38 With A only, ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

FINISHING

With right sides of Front and Back together, matching sts, using large-eyed, blunt needle and matching yarn, sew Front to Back across 3 sides. Turn cover right side out and insert pillow form. Sew remaining side closed.
