GAUGE:

6-st repeat + 4 rows = 1¾ inches (4.5 cm) in Pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

(pattern begins below)
Base ch/sc

(Note This method creates a base chain and foundation row of sc at the same time.)
Start with a slip knot, ch 2, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, draw up loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops – 1 single crochet with its own chain at bottom. Work next stitch under loops of that chain. Insert hook under 2 loops at bottom of previous stitch, draw up loop, yo and draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops. Repeat for length of foundation.

Starburst Pattern (multiple of 6 sts)
Pattern Row 1 Ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, [ch 6, sc in next 2 sc] across. Turn.
Pattern Row 2 Ch 3, skip first sc, dc in 2nd sc, [ch 2, sc in next ch-6 arch, ch 2, dc in next 2 sc] across. Turn.
Pattern Row 3 Ch 3, skip first dc, dc in 2nd dc, [ch 3, slip st in next sc, ch 3, dc in next 2 dc] across, place last dc in top of t-ch. Turn.
Pattern Row 4 Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, [ch 4, sc in next 2 dc] across, place last sc in top of t-ch. Turn.

NOTES:

Vest is crocheted in one piece from neck down, seamlessly, with raglan-type yoke shaping. It is styled with a V-neck, open front, boxy fit, capped shoulders, top of hip length.

Crocheted Vest Reviewed by Tamara Tulou on 2015-03-24 *****
I loved the look of this vest, but was hesitant to attempt making it after reading the reviews. I decided to go for it and was quite proud that I was making good progress... until I discovered at the "joining row" that I had made a mistake at row 2 and would have to undo all my work and start over again.

When I started again I took copious notes, recording my work with more traditional crochet notation. I am posting those notes here in the hopes that others will be able to use to make this vest.

Warning #1: These notes are an addendum to the original pattern; they do not "stand alone". I frequently reference the original pattern.

Warning #2: I am not a professional, and I cannot guarantee the accuracy of my work. Please post any corrections you may find.
