GAUGE:

6 sc = 4" [10 cm] BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

To dec 1 dc: (Yo, insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo, draw yarn through 3 loops on hook.

BAG:
Ch 2 and close into a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) 7 dc in ring (8 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *2 dc into space bet next 2 sts; rep from * around (16 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in next space bet 2 sts, 2 dc in next space; rep from * around (24 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in each of next 2 spaces, 2 dc in next space; rep from * around (32 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, dc in each space around, end sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 6: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in each of next 3 spaces, 2 dc in next space; rep from * around (40 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Rnd 8: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in each of next 7 spaces, 2 dc in next space; rep from * around (54 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Rows 9-12: Rep Row 5.

Row 13: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in each of next 8 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 spaces; rep from * around (50 dc), sl st into space bet beg ch and next dc to join, turn.

Row 14: Rep Row 5.

Row 15: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, *dc in each of next 3 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 spaces; rep from * around (42 dc), sl st into space bet ch and beg dc to join, turn.

Row 16: Rep Row 5.

First Shoulder Strap: Row 17: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in each of next 10 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space (14 dc), turn without working rem sts.

Row 18: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in each of next 8 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space (12 dc), turn.

Row 19: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in each of next 6 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space (10 dc), turn.

Row 20: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in each of next 4 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space (8 dc), turn.

Row 21: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in each of next 2 spaces, dec 1 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next space (6 dc), turn.

Row 22: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in 2nd st and each st across (5 sts), turn.

Rep Row 22, 6 times more or desired length for strap to shoulder. Fasten and end off.

Second Shoulder Strap: Skip next 6 spaces from last st worked on Row 17, join yarn in next space, ch 3 and work as for First Shoulder Strap to end of last row, do not fasten off, ch 1 and proceed with finishing.

FINISHING: With WS tog, sc across strap ends to seam. Fasten off. With RS facing, sc evenly around both edges of Shoulder Straps. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

It is a quick and easy bag to make. It took me 2 full balls of yarn. The picture is not accurate, the bag is much smaller than it appears when made according to the directions.
