Image of Dish Cloth
This washcloth/dishcloth is a great beginner project that can be used for years. So much nicer and thicker than store-bought dishrags!

20 sts = 4 inches (10 cm) in pattern. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

Dish Cloth Reviewed by Alexandria Powell on 2010-09-09 *****
This is a terrific washcloth and will indeed last for years. It always gives me a little smile to pull that one out from all the others. So, this makes a good gift and also can be knit up in fun colors. It's the pattern I go back and look for often.
